I have used a 2G Ipod shuffle successfully on one Dell Windows XP PC for over one year. Have Itunes 7.02 on an identical Dell PC. Plugged shuffle into usb port(s)on second PC - shuffle light turns green momentarily and then off. Shuffle recognized by neither Windows nor Itunes.
